How is the chin filler treatment performed?
In the sections below, we will guide you through the entire process of chin filler treatment. We will explain what happens before, during, and after the chin filler injection to provide you with a clear understanding of what to expect from start to finish.
Before the procedure
The first step of chin filler treatment is a consultation with your specialist. This is your opportunity to ask any questions you may have, explore the treatment in more detail, and share your desired results. Based on your goals, your practitioner will create a personalised plan, selecting the appropriate technique and filler to achieve your desired chin shape or projection.
During the consultation, your provider will also review your medical history and assess for any potential risks, such as allergies. They will advise you on how to prepare in the days leading up to your treatment – for example, by avoiding certain medications, such as blood thinners.
During the procedure
On the treatment day, your provider will start by cleansing the skin and marking the appropriate injection points along the chin. To make the procedure more comfortable, a numbing agent may be applied – this could be a topical cream, cooling spray, or ice pack, depending on your preference.
After the area is numb, the doctor will use a fine needle to inject dermal filler into strategic points on and around the chin. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injection, but most patients describe the procedure as very tolerable. In most cases, the process takes no longer than 30 minutes.
Some results may be visible immediately after the injections. However, it often takes several days – or sometimes a few weeks – for the filler to fully settle and deliver the final result.
Chin filler aftercare
Chin filler treatment is minimally invasive and comes with little to no downtime. Most patients can resume their daily activities, including driving or working, immediately after the procedure.
That said, it’s usually best to avoid intense physical activity for 24 to 48 hours, allowing your skin time to rest and reducing the risk of swelling. Your provider will give you detailed aftercare advice tailored to your individual needs.
Mild swelling or bruising at the injection site is normal and usually subsides within a few days. You can apply cool packs to reduce the discomfort, and it’s best to avoid putting pressure on your chin. For example, try not to rest your face in your hands or sleep face-down.
Avoid touching the area unnecessarily, and always wash your hands if you do need to touch your face. In some cases, your provider may recommend massaging the chin area to ensure even distribution of the filler – they will demonstrate the correct technique if needed.
