What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are hyaluronic acid injections into the lips and surrounding areas. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, with a gel-like form. When injected under the skin, it adds volume, both on its own and by attracting water to the area. This helps with hydration and definition of the lips and their surroundings.

Who is it for?

Consider lip filler treatment if you wish for fuller, thicker, or more defined, symmetrical lips. It is a suitable option for those who prefer minimally-invasive treatments and natural-looking results. It is also recommended to anyone who may have thin or asymmetrical lips, or lips that, for any reason, they feel are lacking in shape or size. Lip filler also smooths wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth.

In addition to lip enhancement, The Ezra Clinic also offers a range of other filler treatments, including filler for smile lines and cheek fillers, tailored to enhance and harmonise your overall facial appearance.

Lip filler – treatment overview

So that you know exactly what to expect, the following sections will detail the procedure, before, during, and after.

Before the treatment

Every lip filler treatment begins with a consultation. This is where you can sit down with your doctor, discuss your medical history, learn the finer details of the procedure, and ask questions about lip filler cost, risks, and so on.

In the build-up to the procedure, it is best to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medication to aid with recovery. If you suffer any trauma or infection around the lip area, let your doctor know ahead of time.

During the procedure

First, your doctor applies a numbing cream to the lips, so you will not feel any pain during the injection. Once your lips are numb, the filler is injected into designated spots around the lips, with the aid of a very fine needle. Common injection sites include the corners of the mouth, the edges of the lips, and the curve in the top lip.

You should not feel any pain but may experience a light pinch as the needle enters. Your doctor may apply ice packs to further numb the area and minimise swelling. The whole procedure takes between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the number of injections needed.

Lip filler aftercare

Your doctor will want to keep an eye on you for a short period (up to 15 minutes) after the procedure to watch for any side effects. You can then leave the clinic and head home or get back to your regular routine. You may experience some swelling and sensitivity in the lips for up to a week, though most patients see symptoms subside in a day or two.

Try to avoid touching your lips while the area heals, as well as any vigorous exercise or excessive heat, like saunas or very hot showers. It is best to not apply any lip makeup or balm for the first day or two, also. Stay hydrated and use an ice pack as needed to ease swelling and discomfort.
Your doctor will probably schedule a follow-up appointment – usually a couple of weeks after the procedure – to examine your lips and assess the change.

FAQ

What if I am unhappy with the result?

We strive to provide natural-looking results that meet your expectations. However, if you are not content, the procedure is reversible, restoring the lips to their prior shape and volume.

How long does lip filler last?

A year to 18 months, on average. However, the exact duration of the effects varies depending on factors like age and metabolic rate.

How much is lip filler in London?

Our lip filler treatment costs ÂŁ720, including VAT.

Does lip filler hurt?

Generally, no, as topical numbing cream is applied to ease any pain. You may still experience some mild discomfort or pinching sensations upon each injection, and light sensitivity for a day or two after the procedure.

What are the risks of the treatment?

The risk of side effects is low, but there is still a chance you could experience bleeding, pain, discolouration, tenderness, infection, migration of filler, or asymmetry. In very rare cases, tissue death may also occur at the injection site. As the lips have a rich blood supply, bruising is sometimes seen after the injection.

Can lip fillers be removed?

Yes, a filler-dissolving treatment will remove the filler and restore the former look of your lips if you are not happy with the results.
