Beautiful Woman Face

With an ever-increasing number of surgical and non-surgical procedures available to help reduce the effects of ageing, sun exposure, lack of sleep and stress, it can be tricky to understand exactly which procedure is right for your needs. Each procedure has its own benefits, outcome and downtime, while some may be unsuitable for certain patients altogether.

Continue reading as we outline several of the most popular facial rejuvenation procedures available so that you can come to an informed decision.

Facial Rejuvenation Treatments

Best for: Eye bags and dark circles

One of the most popular treatments that exists to help combat under-eye bags, tear trough filler is a non-invasive procedure that involves the careful injection of a gel-like substance at specific points around the eye area. It works to replace lost volume under the eyes, ridding them of dark circles, fine lines and hollowing, with the result being a younger, fresher and more rejuvenated complexion.

This non-surgical treatment is excellent for those who require minimal downtime. Recovery is rapid and patients can resume their normal activities immediately, with many returning to work on the same day. A little swelling and redness are common, but this can be easily alleviated with painkillers and a cold compress.

Increasingly popular with younger people, tear trough fillers offer natural-looking, long-lasting results, although the filler will gradually break down over time. In order to retain a rejuvenated appearance, people typically undergo repeat treatments every 1-2 years, depending on the individual’s requirement.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid lift)

Best for: Deep under-eye hollows

The eyes are often the first area where we begin to notice changes due to ageing, so it is unsurprising that many look to eye rejuvenation procedures when wanting to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lift or eyelid reduction surgery, is one of the most commonly performed functional and cosmetic facial surgical procedures. It involves the removal of excess skin and muscle from the upper or lower eyelid region, and either reduces or repositions the underlying fat to leave a more youthful complexion.

Blepharoplasty is perfect for those who want to correct dull, tired-looking eyes or those who have excessive under-eye bags. For some people, the sagginess of the upper eyelid skin can obstruct the field of vision, so undergoing blepharoplasty can make it easier for them to see.

There are two types of blepharoplasty procedure – upper eyelid blepharoplasty and lower eyelid blepharoplasty. The way in which the surgery is performed is different depending on the type, but many years of expertise is required to successfully and safely perform each.

As it is a surgical procedure, blepharoplasty requires downtime and, depending on the type, patients will need to rest for 7-14 days. There will be some swelling, bruising and discomfort for the first few days and patients should carefully follow the blepharoplasty after-care advice provided to them.

When performed by an expert, the results of eyelid surgery are natural and long-lasting, with a significant improvement to the look of the eyelids and overall facial appearance. Most patients are thrilled with the outcome and won’t need to undergo a second procedure, with results lasting between 10-15 years.

Profhilo

Best for: Loss of skin elasticity

Profhilo is a relatively new anti-ageing, skin rejuvenation treatment that involves injecting hyaluronic acid into specific areas of the face or body. It is ideal for people who have noticed a loss in skin firmness and elasticity, which occurs through the natural ageing process but can also be heightened due to lifestyle factors, such as smoking, drinking and stress. It is generally performed on patients over the age of 30, though there is no age limit for profhilo treatment.

Like tear trough filler, no downtime or time off work is necessary after Profhilo treatment. Following the procedure, patients can return to their normal day-to-day activities but may notice temporary redness, tenderness, or minor bruising.

Unlike several other cosmetic facial treatments, such as traditional dermal fillers, profhilo offers natural-looking results and does not change the face shape or add volume to it. Instead, it simply smoothes out and rejuvenates the skin. This means that following profhilo treatment, patients will notice an immediate and visible improvement in brightness and hydration of the skin, in addition to firmness and a reduction in wrinkles.

Brow Lift

Best for: Deep forehead lines or brow descent

Brow lift, also referred to as eyebrow or forehead lift, is another popular procedure used to rejuvenate the face, focusing on the area above the brows. It is recommended for those who wish to correct the signs of ageing, particularly where there are noticeable forehead creases and the brow has descended, resulting in a tired, concerned, or aged look.

A surgical brow lift procedure can be performed in several different ways, but endoscopic brow lift is the most common method. Here, three to five small incisions are hidden under the natural hairline and a surgical telescope is passed through to see where to “lift” the area. Tiny sutures or screws will be positioned to keep the lifted brow in place. The procedure usually takes between 1-2 hours and is carried out under general anaesthetic as a day case, which means it won’t be right for everyone.

A brow lift procedure also requires some downtime, and this will vary according to the method used, though is generally between 1-2 weeks. Bruising and swelling are commonplace, but this will subside within a week. Patients should follow the correct after-care advice to ensure adequate healing.

Once healed, most people are delighted with the results and do not feel the need to undergo any repeat procedures. But, as with all cosmetic treatments, results are best maintained when a healthy lifestyle is followed, which includes wearing sunscreen, exercising regularly, eating healthily and not smoking. This all ensures the skin and facial appearance can remain at its very best for as long as possible!
